When the weather is warm, they fly around the fields and mountains to collect honey with a rich aroma. It is very cold in Hidaka, but they overwinter here in specially winter-proofed hives.
The other animals are respectful and never touch the hives (out of fear of danger).
Although they have a nasty sting they are gentle to the Humans when they come to check on our house and collect the surplus honey. The land here, is blessed with many flowers such as red and white clover, dandelion, false acacia, plum and giant hornbeam. Currently, we are working to increase the number of cinnamon trees and apples on the site to make it a familiar nectar source.
